Hi I am thinking of getting a hamster for my birthday it will be my first hamster so I want to know everything about them and what I will need any tips or advice? You will need a cage that is roughly 80 x 50cm in size and I would recommend not buying it from a pet shop as the cages they stock and sell are too small. You will then need all the basics like bedding, care fresh, hamster food, sugar free hamster treats or as close as you can get to having natural treats. You will also need a non leaking water bottle, a hamster food bowl, a hamster house, wheel and a few toys that allow them to explore and run around. I have always tamed my hamsters by doing 15 minute sessions 4 times throughout a day and I have found that it allowed me to get used to them while they were getting used to me. I tamed my hamster by introducing my hand and letting them sniff me and then gradually moving on when you feel they are comfortable to stroking them. I recommend a Syrian if it is your first hamster as they are the friendliest and the biggest and tend to be the easiest to handle x

Hello everyone! I am ready to get a Syrian hamster (first-time hammy owner) but want to get everything set up before he moves in so he can be very comfortable. I'm from the US but I'm following UK standards for cage size because the recommendations here are ridiculous and inhumane. I can't seem to find any UK suppliers that will ship a cage to my country and it is nearly impossible to find the minimum size here without going over 100 dollars just for the cage (not even including the wheel and other perks that so many European suppliers include). Could anyone give a recommendation as to where I could purchase an appropriate cage? I do not have the time or talent to make one.
Thanks!

Hi. I'm new here and I have a question. Is a cage 55x39x26cm big enough for a one year old syrian hamster??? No, but no worries everyone makes mistakes. Perhaps upgrade to an 80x50 (good size) But i think if you need a 60x40 is the bare minimum x
