Hi. I grew some sunflowers from a few seeds in my dwarf hamster's food mix. Can I break off pieces of the flower (occasionally as a treat since her dry food mix doesn't contain many sunflower seeds) and put it into her cage to help herself to the seeds, or are the dried flower parts toxic for her? The sunflowers are completely organic - no pesticides or artificial fertilizers....only homemade compost. Should I still wash the seeds first or is it not necessary?

Hey,
Here's a video on harvesting the sunflower seeds. I don't think you should give them a chunk of the flower, to many seeds at once and as you said the flower might not be safe. Once the flower has dried I think you can just give the seeds to your hamster as they are, you'll have to look up if they need roasting or not

Hope that helped
